Sofas in Varca: Custom-Built & Bespoke Designs

Living rooms in Varca's villas open onto a veranda, a garden and often a pool, and the sofa sits in the path between them. People come in damp and salty and sit down. For that reason a performance or outdoor-grade cloth makes sense indoors here, over well-seasoned hardwood, with webbing or a rust-proofed suspension beneath the seat; metal legs and plain springs corrode in air that carries salt across the fields. Leatherette is the other workable cover where the room is air-conditioned. The rooms are large enough for two sofas or one big sectional, so draw the layout on a plan first. In a villa let through the season, add covers that wash, plus a change of covers.

• Living rooms that face the pool: a performance-fabric sectional on a hardwood frame, arranged so the veranda doors stay clear.
• Let villas and holiday complexes: firm-foam sofas with removable washable covers, and a sofa bed where an extra sleeper helps.
• Covered verandas: a made-to-measure outdoor sofa in solution-dyed cloth, its cushions lifting off to store when the house is shut.
