A villa living room in Varca is a large floor of tile or stone, and it takes a large rug to gather the seating: big enough that every sofa and chair has its front feet on it. What the rug is made of matters as much as its size. Wool and jute draw in the damp that salt air brings and can smell in a house closed for months, so a good polypropylene or nylon rug is the wiser choice, and it can be carried onto the veranda to air. Feet carry beach sand indoors, and a darker pattern hides it in a let villa. Fitted carpet is for air-conditioned bedrooms only.
- Villa living rooms: a room-sized synthetic rug beneath all the sofas and chairs, patterned so beach sand does not show.
- Bedrooms that run air conditioning: fitted carpet, or else a generous rug by the bed, only where the room stays closed and dry.
- Holiday complex flats: machine-made rugs, patterned and dark, that wash between seasons and are easily replaced if a guest ruins one.
Varca is a coastal village south of Benaulim, known for its wide, quiet beach and the white church of Our Lady of Gloria facing the fields. It has several large resorts set in their own grounds, and many villas and holiday complexes along the lanes between the church and the sea.
Varca has more villas than most South Goa villages: detached houses with gardens, verandas and often a pool, owned as second homes or let through the season. They are furnished to a higher standard than the average holiday flat.
The beach is open and breezy, and salt carries well inland across the flat fields. Homes near the church are more sheltered but humid in the monsoon.
Do you furnish whole villas in Varca?
Yes. Curtains, blinds, mosquito nets, upholstery and outdoor cushions can be measured in one visit and quoted together.
How far in advance should I order before the season?
Allow a few weeks. Curtains and upholstery are made to order, and the weeks before the season are our busiest.
