Before ordering anything new in Orlim, look at what the house already has. The large family houses often keep carved teak or rosewood sofas and settees, and those frames outlast any upholstery; with fresh webbing, foam and fabric they serve another generation. Because salt is slight this side of Varca, the fabric range is wide: cotton, linen blends and woven jacquards all behave. Monsoon humidity from the fields is the thing to plan for, so prefer loose seat cushions with zip covers over fixed padding. In the newer bungalows, larger sitting rooms take a sectional or a facing pair, best drawn on a floor plan first. Veranda seating needs outdoor-grade fabric.
Orlim is a small village just inland from Varca, on the road towards Chinchinim. It is a farming village of paddy fields and coconut groves, with old family houses around the church and a few new bungalows.
Homes are mostly traditional family houses, some large and well kept, with long verandas and many windows. Newer bungalows have been built by families returning from abroad.
Orlim is sheltered from the sea by Varca, so salt is slight. The fields around it are flooded in the monsoon, which makes the air humid and brings mosquitoes in the evenings.
Inland homes are drier, so a wider range of fabrics works, including cotton and linen blends. Heat is the concern: leatherette becomes sticky in a room without air conditioning, and a breathable woven fabric is more comfortable.
Many old houses still have their carved rosewood or teak sofas. These frames are worth restoring more than once: new webbing, foam and fabric bring them back for far less than a new sofa of the same quality.

Yes. The flooded fields breed mosquitoes through the monsoon. Fitted nets on bedroom windows make the most difference.
Yes. The net is made as an openable or pleated panel and fixed on the side that leaves the shutters free.
