Local notes · Salcete taluka
Nothing at Mobor is far from salt water, so a sofa is specified from the inside out. The frame should be seasoned hardwood. Suspension should be webbing or rust-proofed, because a steel spring gives up quickly in spray-laden air. The cover should be a tightly woven synthetic or outdoor-grade fabric, with zips so it comes off for washing; in resort and holiday property the same seat is used by a stream of guests in damp swimwear. Firm foam keeps its shape under that use. Stand the sofa on legs, so the air off the river moves beneath it, and order a second set of covers. A sofa bed gives a villa an extra sleeping place.
Mobor is the southern tip of the Cavelossim peninsula, where the Sal river meets the sea. It is a small area of beach resorts, a fishing jetty and a few villas, with water on both sides and the road ending at the river mouth.
Almost everything here is resort or holiday property. Rooms face either the sea or the river, with terraces and sit-outs that are used as much as the rooms themselves.
Mobor is the most exposed point on this coast. Wind, salt spray and monsoon rain reach every building, and outdoor furnishings take the worst of it.
Sea air is hard on sofas: metal legs and springs rust, and natural fabrics hold damp. Choose a seasoned hardwood frame, rust-proofed or webbing suspension, and a tightly woven synthetic or outdoor-grade fabric. Leather needs conditioning to stop it cracking in salt air.
In a damp room, foam and fabric can turn musty. Raise the sofa on legs so air passes underneath, choose removable covers that can be washed, and keep it a little away from outside walls.
Mobor is about thirty-five minutes from the showroom, at the end of the road through Cavelossim. We measure free of charge.
Solution-dyed acrylic outdoor fabric with quick-dry foam. It does not fade or rot in salt spray, and dries within hours after rain.
Only guided ones. Blinds on exposed terraces should run in side channels or on cables, and be rolled up in storms.
