Wallpaper at Mobor is a matter of picking the right wall and refusing the wrong ones. With the sea on one hand and the river on the other, outer walls take salt and moisture from both directions, and the base of a ground-floor wall may hold damp from below. None of those should be papered; PVC panels are made for them. What remains is the inner wall of an air-conditioned room, most often the one behind the bed in a resort room or villa. There, tough vinyl hung with anti-fungal primer and paste lasts well. Choose a design that will not date, keep it out of corridors where luggage scrapes, and put a spare roll aside for repairs.
- Resort bedrooms: vinyl wallpaper on the dry inner wall behind the bed, well away from luggage racks and the terrace door.
- Ground-floor rooms by the river: stop any paper above the damp line, or use PVC panels where the wall is marked.
- Villa living rooms: one papered inner wall in an air-conditioned space, once the plaster has been checked for salt.
Mobor is the southern tip of the Cavelossim peninsula, where the Sal river meets the sea. It is a small area of beach resorts, a fishing jetty and a few villas, with water on both sides and the road ending at the river mouth.
Almost everything here is resort or holiday property. Rooms face either the sea or the river, with terraces and sit-outs that are used as much as the rooms themselves.
Mobor is the most exposed point on this coast. Wind, salt spray and monsoon rain reach every building, and outdoor furnishings take the worst of it.
Sea-facing homes
Sea-facing walls take in salt and moisture, and paper lifts at the seams if the wall is not sealed. Use vinyl-coated wallpaper on an anti-fungal primer, and keep it to inner walls or walls that do not face the weather. Check for salt bloom on the plaster first.
Riverside and backwater homes
Walls near water hold damp at the base. Wallpaper should stop above any tide mark of rising damp, and the wall should be treated first. Vinyl papers with anti-fungal adhesive cope with humidity; paper-backed and fabric wallpapers do not.
