Custom Sofas in Pilerne: Bespoke Designs for Goa Homes

Grit is what wears out a sofa in Pilerne. Dust from the industrial estate and its traffic settles on the seat and is ground in each time someone sits down, so a tightly woven fabric or a wipeable leatherette will outlast velvet or a loose, nubbly weave. For staff accommodation and office waiting areas, firm foam and a plain shape matter more than looks, and an old sofa with a sound frame can be re-covered instead of replaced. In the apartment complexes, measure the lift and the stair before ordering. Leatherette turns sticky in a hot room with no air conditioning; a close woven fabric breathes better there.

• Office receptions in the estate: a two-seater in leatherette with firm foam, which wipes clean of dust at the end of the day.
• Flats for estate and Porvorim workers: a sectional made in parts to clear the stairs, in a tight mid-tone weave.
• Old village houses below the plateau: existing wooden sofas re-webbed and re-covered, keeping the original frames.
