Dust settles in every fold, which is why a deeply buttoned headboard is hard work in Pilerne. Near the industrial estate a smooth panelled design in leatherette or a tight weave is the practical pick: a wipe with a damp cloth and it is clean. In staff accommodation, where beds change hands, a plain shape is also simpler to re-cover later. Bedrooms in the apartment complexes tend to be compact, and a headboard fixed to the wall saves the depth a freestanding one would take. Down by the lake the air is damper, so leave a small gap behind the board on an outside wall.
- Staff rooms near the estate: flat leatherette panels fixed to the wall, which wipe clean and survive a change of occupant.
- Flats in the apartment complexes: a wall-mounted headboard running wider than the bed, with shelves in place of side tables.
- Old village houses by the lake: a wooden or lightly padded board hung off the wall, so air passes behind it.
Pilerne lies between Porvorim and Candolim. It is known for its industrial estate on the plateau, and for the village below with its church, lake and old houses. Apartment complexes have been built for people working in the estate and in Porvorim.
Housing is a mix of village houses and flats, with offices and small factories in the industrial estate. Commercial work is common: blinds for offices, and practical furnishing for staff accommodation.
Pilerne is inland. The industrial estate and its traffic bring dust, and the plateau is open to wind. The village near the lake is humid.
