Custom Sofas in Farmagudi

A sofa in Farmagudi has an easier life than one on the coast: the plateau air is dry and moving, there is no salt, and cushions do not turn musty. What it does get is sun. Flats and houses here stand in the open, and a sofa under a big window bleaches on the side nearest the glass, so pick a fade-resistant weave or keep a blind drawn at midday. Through the hot months a cotton or linen-mix cover is kinder than leatherette, which sticks to the skin. For a flat on an upper floor, order a sofa that comes apart, or it may not get up the stairs. Old sofas in family houses can be re-webbed and covered again.

• Upper-floor flats: a sofa delivered as separate sections, each small enough for the staircase landing and the doorway of the flat.
• Common rooms in hostels and institutes: firm foam under a hard-wearing weave or leatherette that takes many sitters and wipes down.
• Family houses: an existing wooden-frame sofa given new webbing, foam and a breathable woven fabric instead of being replaced.
