Rugs are usually the last thing bought for a new Fatrade villa, and worth a little thought because the house may stand closed for weeks between visits. In that still, salt-tinged air a wool or jute rug takes up moisture and smells when the doors are next opened; polypropylene or nylon does not. Rooms here are generous, so the rug should be large: every sofa and chair ought to have its front feet on it. Sand walks in from the beach, which favours a patterned low pile. If the place is let, machine-made rugs that go through a wash when the season is over are sensible. Before locking up for a long absence, roll rugs and stand them off the floor.
- Large villa living rooms: one generous synthetic rug under the whole seating group, patterned to hide tracked-in sand.
- Holiday apartments let to guests: dark machine-made rugs, inexpensive to replace and easy to wash once the season ends.
- Air-conditioned villa bedrooms: a bedside rug each side, or fitted carpet only if the room is cooled and kept closed.
Fatrade is a ward of Varca with its own stretch of beach, between Varca and Carmona. It is a quiet area of resorts set in large grounds, new villa developments and holiday apartments, with paddy fields between the road and the sea.
Building here is recent: gated villa clusters and apartment complexes, many sold to buyers from outside Goa as holiday homes. They are handed over unfurnished and need everything from curtain tracks to mosquito nets.
The land is flat and open to the sea breeze. Salt reaches the villas nearest the beach, and the fields hold water through the monsoon, which brings mosquitoes.
My new villa in Fatrade was handed over bare. Where do I start?
With curtain tracks, mosquito nets and bedroom blackout, then living-room curtains and outdoor items. We can measure everything in one visit.
Can everything be ordered remotely?
Yes. After measuring we send photos, fabric options and the quote on WhatsApp, and fit when you confirm.
