Custom Blinds in Ribandar: Roller, Wooden & Vertical

Privacy from the road is the first reason a Ribandar household looks at blinds, and a zebra blind answers it well: the solid bands close against the street and the sheer bands still pass daylight. The second matter is damp. With the Mandovi behind the house and mangroves along the causeway, cloth that stays moist grows mildew, so coated polyester rollers and roman blinds in washable synthetic fabric are safer than real wood or raw bamboo on the river side. Wooden venetians belong only in a dry upstairs room. Old frames here lean and bow, so a blind usually goes on the wall above the frame instead of inside it.

• Windows opening onto the road: zebra blinds fixed to the wall above the frame, so the old shutters still swing freely.
• Rooms backing onto the Mandovi: wipe-clean sunscreen rollers that take the glare off the water and give mildew nothing to grow on.
• Covered balconies over the street: clear PVC monsoon blinds that keep slanting rain out and still show the road below.
