Custom Blinds in Altinho, Goa

Trees do half the shading on Altinho, so many rooms need a blind for privacy and wind control more than for sun. That changes the choice. A sunscreen roller would make an already dim, leaf-shaded room gloomy; a roman blind, or a wooden venetian in the drier and sunnier rooms, lets in what light there is. The old bungalow windows are tall and seldom square, so each blind is made to its own opening and fixed to the face of the frame. On the weather side of the hill, a blind hanging in an open window will knock about in the monsoon gusts unless it has a weighted bottom rail or side guides.

• Tall bungalow windows: roman blinds fixed to the frame face, each made to its own measurements because no two old openings agree.
• Verandas open to the weather side of the hill: clear PVC monsoon blinds with side guides, rolled up once the rains have passed.
• Government quarters and newer flats: zebra blinds in the living room and blackout rollers in bedrooms, chain-operated and quick to wipe.
