Custom Sofas in Moira, Goa | Bespoke Designs & Local Expertise

An old house furnished with a bulky modern recliner looks wrong, and people restoring homes in Moira generally know it. The better routes are two. If a carved hardwood settee or a cane-backed sofa came with the house, have it repaired: joints re-glued, webbing renewed, seat pads remade in a cloth that suits the wood. Otherwise have a sofa made to order with a slim frame and visible legs, which lets air circulate underneath in a village where the fields flood and the floor-level air is damp for months. Keep upholstery a hand's breadth from the lime walls. Without salt to worry about, cotton, linen blends and even velvet are all possible, in removable covers.

• The entrance hall behind the balcão: a restored carved settee with new seat pads, standing free of the damp-prone wall.
• Sitting rooms with uneven old walls: a made-to-order sofa on raised legs, sized to the room and not pushed tight against the plaster.
• The balcão itself: seat cushions for its benches in outdoor-grade fabric, since rain blows in under the porch roof.
