Local notes · Tiswadi taluka
A sofa in Corlim has grit to contend with. Dust from the estate and the Ponda road settles on the seat and is ground in every time someone sits, which wears a loose weave or velvet quickly. A tightly woven fabric or leatherette that can be wiped lasts much longer. Leatherette has one drawback inland: it turns sticky in a hot room without air conditioning, so in a fan-cooled flat a close woven fabric is the kinder choice. Flats and row houses here are modest in size, so measure the stairs and the door, and have the sofa made to the wall. An old frame in good order can be reupholstered instead.
Corlim lies just east of Old Goa on the road to Ponda. It is known for its industrial estate and has grown into a residential area for people who work there and in Panjim, with housing colonies and apartment buildings.
Homes are mostly modest flats and row houses, with some staff housing. Offices and units in the industrial estate account for part of the work.
Corlim is inland. Industry and the Ponda road bring dust, and the low ground towards the river is humid.
Dust and grit wear fabric where it is rubbed in. A tightly woven fabric or leatherette that can be wiped is easier to keep clean than velvet or a loose weave.
Inland homes are drier, so a wider range of fabrics works, including cotton and linen blends. Heat is the concern: leatherette becomes sticky in a room without air conditioning, and a breathable woven fabric is more comfortable.
Corlim is about forty-five minutes from the showroom. We measure free of charge, on the same trip as Old Goa.
Roller blinds. They wipe clean in a minute, where curtains would need frequent washing.
