Custom Curtains for Reis Magos.

A window that looks across the Mandovi to Panjim is the reason people live on the Reis Magos slope, and a curtain's first duty is not to spoil it. The difficulty is that the same window faces south and has sun on it for most of the day, with a breeze that seldom drops. A sheer with some weight in it filters the glare and hangs steadily, where a featherlight voile would flap. Behind it goes a lined curtain for the evening, the lining detachable so it can be washed once river humidity gets into it. Tracks should be anchored in the slab or a sound lintel, and tie-backs stop fabric blowing about.

• Hillside villas with wide river-facing glass: weighted sheers on a ceiling track, motorised where the span is too broad to draw by hand.
• Old houses near the water: light cotton or linen-look curtains hung above the shuttered frames, with a gap behind for air.
• Apartments near Verem: sheer and blackout layers on twin tracks, with weighted hems because the wind off the river is constant.
