Bedrooms on the Reis Magos hillside are bright rooms. If the bed faces the view, the headboard stands on the back wall, safe from the sun. Where the bed stands side-on to the south window, though, light rakes across the headboard all day, and a fade-resistant fabric matters. Humidity is the other consideration. A deeply padded board pressed against an outside wall traps moisture, so hang it with a small gap and have any plywood backing sealed on both faces. Large villa bedrooms can take a full-width panelled wall with lights and sockets, worked out with the electrician. In an old house, keep the carved bed and add an upholstered panel inside it.
- Villa master bedrooms: a full-wall panelled headboard with reading lights, the wiring positions agreed before the panels are made.
- Sunny south-side bedrooms: a wingback or panelled board in fade-resistant fabric, hung a finger's width off the wall.
- Old houses by the water: a wooden headboard, or an upholstered insert for the existing bed, in a cover that wipes clean.
Reis Magos is on the north bank of the Mandovi, facing Panjim across the water. Its restored fort and white church stand on the slope above the river, and the village of Verem below runs along the road to Betim and the bridge.
Homes here are old riverside houses, hillside villas with views of Panjim and the river mouth, and some apartment buildings near Verem. Windows facing the water are the main feature.
The slope faces south over the river and gets sun for most of the day, with a steady breeze. Humidity is high and salt moderate.
