The view is the reason people live in Miramar, and curtains there are planned around keeping it. Along the avenue and the beach road, flats have long balconies and wide glass looking over the sea or the mouth of the Mandovi, and the sun comes straight in from the west every evening. A sheer left drawn softens that light without closing off the water, and a blackout curtain behind it is pulled only in bedrooms. On wide spans a wave heading on a ceiling track stacks back tightly, so little glass is lost. Salt reaches these buildings, so use aluminium track, nylon gliders and washable polyester-blend fabric, and hang hems clear of open doors.
Miramar is the beach suburb of Panjim, where the Mandovi meets the sea. The long avenue from the city ends at Miramar circle, and the area around it is one of the most sought-after residential addresses in Goa, with apartment buildings and bungalows a short walk from the beach.
Flats here are larger than in the city centre, many with a sea or river view and long balconies. Owners want the view kept, so sunscreen blinds and sheers are common, with blackout behind them in bedrooms.
Miramar faces the open water at the river mouth. Salt air and wind reach the buildings along the avenue and the beach road, and the evening sun shines straight in from the west.
Salt in the air stiffens fabric and rusts ordinary hooks and rings. Choose polyester or polyester-blend fabrics that can be machine washed, and aluminium or stainless tracks with nylon gliders. Keep curtains a hand's width clear of windows that are left open to the breeze, so spray does not wet the hem.
Flats usually have standard-height windows and a neighbour close by. A sheer for the day and a blackout for the night, on a double track, gives privacy without darkness. Where a split air conditioner sits above the window, a ceiling track lets the curtain hang clear of it.
