The opening is in the living room of a home in Benaulim. It is tall, runs almost down to the floor, and sits in a polished wooden frame. Beside it the room already has carved, patterned furniture.
The curtain hangs inside the wooden frame, not on the wall above it. That means the headrail had to match the inside width of the frame, and the fabric had to run from the top of the frame to just above the floor, with only a small gap at the sides and the bottom. On an inside fit there is no overlap to hide a measuring mistake.
We fitted a flexi curtain in ivory, light-filtering fabric inside the frame. A flexi curtain hangs from a slim headrail like a vertical blind, but its fabric falls in soft, even waves, so from the room it reads as a curtain. It draws to the side to open the window.
The wooden frame stays on show, the plain ivory fabric sits quietly next to the patterned furniture, and in daylight the curtain softens the light rather than blacking out the room. The window bars behind it show only as faint shadows.

A flexi curtain hangs from a slim headrail like a vertical blind, but it is made of fabric that falls in soft, even waves, so it looks like a curtain from the room. It draws to the side to open, and it can be fitted inside a window frame or on the wall above it.
Ordinary curtains need a rod wider than the window and wall space at each side where the fabric gathers when open. A flexi curtain can sit inside the frame, so it suits openings with a frame you want to keep on show or little wall on either side. When it is open inside the frame, the fabric stacks at one side and covers a strip of the opening. Choose ordinary curtains when you want heavy blackout fabric or a full, gathered look.
