The question in Carmona is what a curtain looks like after months on end behind closed shutters. Many houses here belong to families working abroad or at sea, and stand shut for much of the year in air that is both salty and damp, the ground between village and beach being wet all monsoon. Cotton and silk come out of that spotted with mildew. Washable polyester and polyester blends do not, and they can be laundered as soon as the family returns.
