Custom Sofas in Assagao: Bespoke Designs & Local Expertise

Many of Assagao's old houses still hold the furniture they were built around: carved sofas and armchairs with frames that have outlasted several sets of cushions. Those frames deserve re-webbing, new foam and new cloth, not replacement. For the new villas, the sofa is often drawn by the interior designer, and making to order means it can follow that drawing, in the fabric named on the schedule. A double-height room needs a sofa with enough bulk not to look lost, usually a sectional or a matched pair. Salt is slight here, so linen and cotton blends are possible, but the damp months under the trees favour loose covers that can be taken off and aired.

• Restored family houses: the original carved sofa rebuilt on fresh webbing and foam, covered in a linen blend, the woodwork left untouched.
• Villa living rooms with glass walls: a large sectional made to the designer's drawing, in a cloth that will not fade on the sunny side.
• Pool-facing rooms in houses let as stays: a sofa in outdoor-grade fabric with removable covers, for wet swimwear and many sitters.
