Custom Curtains in Mormugao: Bespoke Designs & Installation

Two sorts of window look out over the harbour at Mormugao, and they want different curtains. The old officers' bungalows have tall windows under high ceilings, a great many of them, and each needs a long drop hung from above the frame so the shutters stay usable. That is a lot of cloth, so it must be cloth that goes in a washing machine: polyester or a polyester blend, not silk or heavy cotton, which stiffen with salt and stay damp. Port dust is the other reason. Hang a plain sheer on the glass side to catch it and wash that often. Tracks and rings should be aluminium or stainless with nylon gliders; ordinary hooks rust here quickly.

• Officers' bungalows with tall windows: long washable polyester curtains on a rod fixed above the frame, clear of the shutters.
• Port trust quarters around Sada and the Headland: where a small window does take a curtain, one short lined panel on a rust-proof track is enough.
• Rooms on the hill above the harbour: a closely woven lined curtain, with a sheer on the glass side to take the port dust.
