Bogmalo homes face the bay or sit a few steps behind it, and many are second homes and holiday lets that stand closed for part of the year. A curtain there has to survive two things: wind straight off the water while the home is in use, and weeks of still, humid air while it is shut. Natural fibres hold damp and come out of a closed season marked; a washable polyester mix in a middling shade does not, and it stands up to repeated laundering between guests. Hooks, rings and tracks should be aluminium or stainless. On the wide sea-facing doors of the villas on the slope, a ceiling track with a wave heading stacks neatly.
Bogmalo is a small bay with a sandy beach on the seaward side of the Mormugao peninsula, a few kilometres from Dabolim. It has a beach resort, a handful of hotels and guest houses, a fishing community, and apartments and villas on the slope behind the beach.

Salt in the air stiffens fabric and rusts ordinary hooks and rings. Choose polyester or polyester-blend fabrics that can be machine washed, and aluminium or stainless tracks with nylon gliders. Keep curtains a hand's width clear of windows that are left open to the breeze, so spray does not wet the hem.
