Sofas in Bambolim: Custom Designs & Local Expertise

Most sofas bought for Bambolim have to climb a stairwell or fit a lift, and many will do it again when the tenancy ends. For the flats around the medical college, a sofa that comes apart into a couple of pieces, its legs unscrewing, is easier to get in and easier to move out. Size it to the room: made to order means a two-and-a-half seater is possible where a three-seater would block the balcony door. Villas above the bay have the opposite problem, which is space, and strong afternoon sun through wide glass. A sofa placed in that light should be covered in a fade-resistant fabric. Close to the highway, a tight weave or leatherette wipes free of dust.

• Shared student flats: a compact sofa bed, firmly filled and covered in a tough weave, which gives a visiting parent somewhere to sleep.
• Bay-side villa living rooms: a sectional, or two sofas opposite each other, in solution-dyed fabric, sketched onto the room plan first.
• Flats with a sound older sofa: reupholstery with new foam, webbing and fabric, which saves carrying a new one up the stairs.
