Local notes · Salcete taluka
Most homes in Vidya Nagar are two and three-bedroom flats, and the first question about a new sofa is whether it will pass the stair turn and the front door. One made in two or three sections, or with legs that unscrew, settles that. Fabric is the easier decision. With no salt to speak of and trees shading the internal roads, cotton and linen blends do well and feel cooler than leatherette, which clings to the skin when a room has only a fan. In a ground-floor flat that gets damp in the rains, stand the sofa on legs and keep it off the outer wall. Good older frames deserve reupholstery, not replacement.
Vidya Nagar is a residential part of Margao, on its eastern side, known for its schools and colleges. It is a quiet area of apartment buildings, housing societies and independent bungalows on tree-lined internal roads. Our showroom is here.
Most homes are two and three-bedroom flats from the last thirty years, with standard-height windows and one or two balconies. Bungalows on the internal roads have larger living-room windows and sit-outs. In flats, curtains and blinds are usually fitted within the window recess to keep clear of wardrobes and study tables placed against the wall.
Being inland and sheltered by trees, Vidya Nagar has little salt in the air. Rooms on the upper floors of west-facing blocks take strong afternoon sun, and ground-floor flats can feel damp in the monsoon, which matters for wallpaper and rugs.
Measure the lift, the stairwell and the door before choosing a sofa for a flat. A sofa made in sections, or with removable legs and arms, goes up where a one-piece sofa will not. An L-shape should be ordered for the correct hand.
Inland homes are drier, so a wider range of fabrics works, including cotton and linen blends. Heat is the concern: leatherette becomes sticky in a room without air conditioning, and a breathable woven fabric is more comfortable.
This is our home ground: the showroom is in Vidya Nagar itself. A measuring visit is quick to arrange, and you can walk over to see samples before deciding.

Usually within a day or two, because the showroom is in the same neighbourhood. Measuring a two-bedroom flat takes about half an hour.
