Local notes · Mormugao taluka
The sofa in a Chicalim living room generally faces the water, which means it also faces the light. Hours of sun and reflected glare through wide glass will fade an ordinary fabric along the side nearest the window, so a fade-resistant or outdoor-grade cloth is worth choosing for that seat. The bay keeps the air humid: raise the sofa on legs so air passes under it, have covers that come off for washing, and stand it a little away from any outside wall. For the apartment complexes on the slope, check the lift and stair sizes and order an L-shape for the correct hand so it does not block the balcony door.
Chicalim is a village on the southern shore of the Zuari bay, between Dabolim and Vasco. The road along the bay looks across the water, and the slopes above it have seen many new apartment complexes and villa projects, alongside the older village houses near the church.
New Chicalim homes are built for the view: wide windows and balconies facing the bay. Sheer curtains and sunscreen blinds that keep the view while cutting glare are the usual choice, with blackout in bedrooms.
The bay brings humidity and a steady breeze, with some salt though less than on the open coast. Rooms facing the water get reflected glare for much of the day.
In a damp room, foam and fabric can turn musty. Raise the sofa on legs so air passes underneath, choose removable covers that can be washed, and keep it a little away from outside walls.
A large living room can take a sectional or a pair of sofas facing each other. Agree the layout on a floor plan first, and consider performance fabric if the room opens straight onto a pool or garden.
Chicalim is about thirty-five minutes from the showroom. We measure free of charge and combine visits with Dabolim and Vasco.
A sunscreen roller blind or a sheer curtain. Both soften light and reduce glare while you can still see out. Add a blackout layer for bedrooms.
It is milder than on the open coast, but we still use aluminium tracks and rust-proof fixings for homes facing the bay.
