Blinds in Dona Paula: Custom Solutions & Installation

On the slopes of Dona Paula a single wall of glass may be wider than any one blind can cover, so the work begins with dividing it: a pair or a trio of blinds next to one another, their joins lined up with the mullions so the gaps disappear against the frame. With that many, motors on one remote save a daily round of chains. A sunscreen roller keeps the view of the bay while cutting the glare off the water; a blackout goes behind it in bedrooms. Salt rules out steel parts and real wood slats. Wind is strong on this headland, so anything outside, including clear PVC blinds on a terrace, must run in cables or channels.

• Full-height glazing in villas: motorised sunscreen rollers in two or three widths, with the joins set on the frame members.
• High windows above a stair or double-height room: a motorised blackout or zebra blind, since no chain can be reached.
• Terraces above the water: channel-guided outdoor blinds with aluminium and stainless parts; an unguided blind will not last a monsoon.
