Wooden flooring covers two different products. Laminate is a wood-fibre board with a photograph of wood under a hard clear layer. Engineered wood is a real timber surface bonded to a plywood base. Laminate costs less and resists scratches; engineered wood is the real thing and can be refinished.
Both have a wood-based core, and wood and water do not mix. In Goa that makes room choice the main decision.
| Laminate | Wood-fibre core with a printed wood layer. Commonly 8 or 12 mm thick |
|---|---|
| Engineered wood | A real wood surface on a plywood base |
| Laid by | Click-lock planks floating on an underlay; engineered wood may also be glued |
| Best rooms | Dry bedrooms, living rooms and studies, preferably on upper floors |
| Avoid | Bathrooms, kitchens, and rooms that open straight to rain |
| Care | Sweep and wipe with a well-wrung cloth. Never wet-mop |
| Price | Quoted after measuring. It depends on the type, thickness and area |
We do not publish a fixed rate for this, because the price depends on the design chosen, the area and the condition of the surface. We measure free of charge in Goa and quote before any work starts.
| Laminate | Engineered wood | |
|---|---|---|
| Surface | A printed image of wood | Real timber |
| Scratches | Resists them well | Marks more easily |
| Refinishing | No | Can be sanded and re-polished, depending on the thickness of the wood layer |
| Water | Joints swell if water stands | Sensitive to water and damp |
| Cost | Lower | Higher |

Yes, in dry rooms: upper-floor bedrooms, living rooms and studies. It should be kept out of kitchens, bathrooms and rooms exposed to rain. For those, SPC gives a wood look and is waterproof.

A spill wiped up straight away does no harm. Water left standing gets into the joints and swells the core, and the swelling does not go back.
Yes. It floats on an underlay over the tiles, which must be dry, firm and level.
