Vinyl flooring is a waterproof plastic floor covering with a printed wood or stone pattern under a clear wear layer. It is thin, so it goes over existing tiles without raising the floor much, and it is softer and quieter to walk on than tile.
It is sold in three forms: sheet vinyl in wide rolls, planks that look like timber boards, and tiles that look like stone. All three are also called PVC flooring.
| Forms | Sheet in rolls, planks, and tiles |
|---|---|
| Water | Waterproof. Suitable for kitchens and for rooms mopped daily |
| Laid by | Glued down to a smooth floor. Some planks click together instead |
| Over old tiles | Yes, after grout lines and uneven tiles are smoothed |
| Feel | Soft, warm and quiet underfoot |
| Care | Sweep and damp mop. No polishing |
| Price | Quoted after measuring. It depends on the form, thickness and area |
Vinyl is thin and follows whatever it is laid on. Grout lines, a raised tile edge or grit under the sheet will show through within weeks. Before laying, the old floor is cleaned and any unevenness is filled with a levelling compound and left to dry. This preparation, more than the vinyl itself, decides how the finished floor looks.
We do not publish a fixed rate for this, because the price depends on the design chosen, the area and the condition of the surface. We measure free of charge in Goa and quote before any work starts.

Yes. Vinyl itself does not absorb water. Sheet vinyl, with very few joints, is the most watertight form.
Yes, once the tiles are firm and the grout lines have been smoothed with a levelling compound. Laid straight over rough tiles, the joints will show through.
It depends on the thickness of the wear layer and the traffic. Thicker wear layers are made for offices and shops; thinner ones suit bedrooms. We will recommend a grade for the room.
Both are waterproof. Vinyl is flexible and is usually glued down. SPC has a rigid stone-plastic core and clicks together without glue, which bridges small unevenness better and feels firmer.
