A living room has two natural feature walls: the one behind the TV and the one behind the sofa. Wallpaper on one of them, with the rest of the room painted, is enough. Papering both makes them compete.
The TV wall suits a texture or a quiet pattern that does not fight the screen. The sofa wall can carry something bolder, because it is seen as a whole from across the room.

| Wall | Design that suits | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Behind the TV | Stone, plaster or wood texture; a quiet geometric | Busy patterns distract from the screen |
| Behind the sofa | Large botanical, mural or bold geometric | Leave some wall showing above the sofa back |
| Dining corner | A richer colour or metallic accent | Choose a wipe-clean vinyl near the table |
| Entrance wall | A statement pattern | It is the first thing a visitor sees |
| Ceiling | A subtle texture or soft pattern | Works best in rooms with good height |
