Charcoal panels are lightweight decorative panels made with a charcoal-based core and a finished face. They are sold in two forms: louvers, which are ribbed strips fixed side by side, and sheets with a moulded or carved pattern.
They weigh little, cut easily and bend around gentle curves, so they are used where heavier panels are awkward: curved walls, columns, niches and ceilings. They are made for dry interiors.

Louvers give lines and shadow, and suit tall or narrow walls. Sheets give a pattern, such as waves, geometric shapes or a stone face, and suit a wide wall seen from across the room. The two are often combined: a patterned sheet in the centre with louvers on each side.
