Mapusa is the market town of Bardez and the commercial centre of North Goa. Its municipal market, busiest on Fridays, draws people from all the surrounding villages. The town spreads over low hills, with the older houses around the church and Altinho, and apartment buildings along the roads to Duler, Karaswada and Ansabhat.
Mapusa has many apartment buildings of every age, housing colonies, and old family houses on the hill. People furnish practically here, and it is where residents of Assagao, Parra, Moira and Siolim come for everyday needs.
Mapusa is several kilometres inland, so salt is not a concern. Heat, humidity and dust from the busy roads around the market are. Flats in older buildings often have damp patches on outer walls.
