A duplex villa owner in Old Goa had a south-facing 14-foot open balcony. In the dry season, afternoon sun turned the tiles blistering hot; in monsoons, wind-driven rain flooded the sitting area, driving water into the bedroom threshold.
The balcony needed an adaptable cover that could extend to provide full shade and rain protection, but retract smoothly to allow star-gazing at night and maintain the villa's clean heritage facade without permanent scaffolding.
We installed a 14 ft x 8 ft heavy-duty retractable folding-arm awning with heavy-gauge 6063-T6 aluminum extrusion arms and high-tensile internal dual springs. The canopy uses 100% waterproof solution-dyed acrylic fabric in graphite grey, mounted at a calibrated 15-degree pitch for instant monsoon rainwater runoff.
The balcony is now a cool, shaded outdoor room usable rain or shine. The client operates the awning with a smooth manual crank in under 30 seconds, keeping indoor living areas noticeably cooler.
